35 years ago—Sunday, 27 February 1977—Divine Shepherd Lutheran Church held its first worship service at Jane Addams Middle School here in Bolingbrook. Thanks be to God for establishing His house here in our midst, where Christ’s good gifts of forgiveness, life, and salvation continue to be distributed to God’s people in Word and Sacrament. The Rev. Paul Huxhold, our founding pastor, would want us to remember these words today:

“According to the grace of God given to me, like a skilled master builder I laid a foundation, and someone else is building upon it. Let each one take care how he builds upon it. For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.” [1 Corinthians 3:10-11]
